I cannot find a schematic anywhere for this little beast.

When pushing a tape into the machine, the motor starts spinning, but the tape will not stay in the deck, also, the track changer button does not work, and the track number lights do not light.

There is a pretty big electromagnet that is supposed to hold the tape cartridge in the unit in the play position, until the eject button is hit. The electromagnet is not working.

any advice, or schematic I could use?

Sometimes the schematics are pasted inside the cabinet or underneath. But I'm sure you already checked in those places. Do you hear any thing when pressing the track change button? The solenoid should buzz and try to turn the mechanics that reposition the head.

I was hoping for the tiny schematic pasted to the inside of the cabinet, but no such luck. No buzzing or anything when pressing the track change button. I just need to take the time, use a meter, and start at the power supply, and work my way forward. There is a big, ceramic rectangular resistor mounted in there, away from printed circuit boards. An other forum had a thread where that resistor had become open. I just need to poke around. I cannot even find the schematic on Sam's.
