I don't remember seeing a console with swing out speakers and I was around when yours was built. I suspect that was a space saving feature. Harry

There was one of these on E-bay selling for some ridiculously high price, Your Console (If you were to resell it) is probably worth around $100-$150, I like Motorola products a lot, and find that they are very well built, Does this one work?

Everything works great and sounds great , Except for one little thing the turntable gets a little confused from time to time Im. Thinking it might just need a clean and lube , If I cant fix it Ill just replace the turntable . The amp is 3 channel with 3 output transformers and sounds so good Id love to hear it through a set of AR speakers with the 15" in a sealed cab back cab. One of the interesting things is the hinges for the speakers are part of the circuit so theres no wires .

Do NOT replace the turntable, This is one unit that needs to stay with it's original Changer,

The nice thing with the swingout speakers is there a sealed enclosure with 6x9s and 4" tweeters if you can call them that lol and a 15" in the console .

Biker,

I am not sure insane BIN prices on ebay are a reliable indicator of worth, but that is a nice console.

Hey there. I landed this same Motorola Console about the same time as outlawbiker.

Mine also came with the original operating manual and 10" stereo demo record! The sound quality is unbelievable! The original owner told me she bought it new in 1959 that it had all it's original tubes and parts. I have replaced the cartridge with a brand-new original and of course, a new stylus thanks to http://www.carolesneedles.com and I removed the back and cleaned out the 60+ years of dust and dirt.

The greatest features are the Record Equaluzation settings. When turned to the 78 selection, it filters out all the noise of those shellac records. The RIAA setting brings amazing brilliance to stereo LPs. There's also a stereo and mono switch. Of course you still get balance, bass and treble controls as well.

I think I need to lube the turntable a bit and I'd like to replace the tubes but unless I have a problem I don't want to mess with it too much. This is just the greatest set I've heard from that era. The whitewashed finish is perfect for my decor and even though the swing out doors aren't my favorite feature, they sure do disguise it when they're closed.

Outlawbiker: If you see this posting, I'd love to see the record cabinet you mentioned that you got with your purchase. Maybe I can re-create one of my own to match if you can provide some photos!

That's probably going to be slim seeing this post is nearly two years old and outlawbiker has only 4 posts.

Great set though. One of the best consoles Motorola built and they made some good ones.

RCA, Zenith, Philco and Silvertone made consoles with swing out speakers in that period.
it was a space saving effort that allowed the user to detach the speakers and place them apart
for optimum stereo image if desired.

@outlawbiker1970,

Wow...I love this specific unit. I had one of these in my bedroom as a child.

IF you ever decide to part with it, give me a shout.

...if he's still around. You're responding to a 10 year old post ;-)

Also, putting your personal phone number, or any other info, is not recommended. You never know who's watching, or why :) Generally such info should be put in a PM or Email.
