Hello all,

I've been keeping my eye open for a console for my basement and bought this today for next to nothing. Of course the part of the tag with the model number is ripped off. I've scoured ebay and google images trying to find the same but I've came up completely empty. There are of course similar styled but non with the same exterior or control unit/knobs/sliders.

Overall it's decent. Left speaker isn't working or is very week. Two of the four lights on the sliders are burnt out. Or maybe it's in issue with the sliders themselves. Radio works great, turntable does not. Spins extremely slow. My expertise lies more in furniture and general/basic electronic repair such as video game consoles or computers. I have no idea what to do so of course I've touched nothing. I don't want to end up like marv from home alone.

Long story short, any idea of a model number and if not can you all point me in the direction of some information on whether I dare open this thing up.

Sorry the photos aren't a better size. I had approriately sized ones uploaded to tinypic and was going to embed the links but since I'm a new member I can't do that. The only other option was to attach the photos, but there was a size limit of 800x800 where as most of mine were originally 1200x400.

It is a 1970 or 1971 model and will start with an A or a B. It is a mid-line model so the number will be something like B940 or B945.

Upon looking again, I am pretty sure it is a 1971 model due to burl wood type trim on the control panel.

Thank you both. I really just fell in love with the main control panel. The lights, knobs and sliders are all just gorgeous and hit that sweet spot for me ha.

with the additional information I was able to find a youtube video claiming it is a A950.

UPDATE:

Went and messed with it more and everything is working now except for the lights on loudness and balance. I figure those "should" be easy enough to replace. It needs a new needle/cartridge of course. I actually have a local guy who a TON of new old stock of needles, ect. He even has the original displays for them. Maybe I'll get lucky and he'll have one.

Also figured out the front slides open, that really confused me for a bit considering the others turn open. The fabric has yellow and green threads running through it. I figured the front was just stationary. Now I just need to move it into the basement and fix the few minor scratches on the case. Sounds great and works great, is there anything I should watch for on it?

Found the ad. It was in a November 1969 paper.

You could land a model airplane on it; not sure of taking off though...

Beat me to it! I was thinking an aircraft carrier. Where's the arresting wires?

IIRC, only RCAs had arresting wires......

OK, thanks for the clarification!

But seriously, I do remember these huge consoles of the 60s and 70s. I am just glad that I was not a delivery man from the electronics store.

I have a similar console. Mine is a 1971 B966. There is one light bulb that mounts in the middle of each set of the two sliders. The bulb is an 1847. I just replaced all of the bulbs in mine. If any of the touch buttons fail, those are different....type 1819.
