I'm not really understanding what you are saying. The 10uF 50V caps are not polarized? Nichicon TVX series caps ARE polarized electrolytics. My question is ... were you trying perhaps to replace a non polarized electrolytic with a polarized one? If the old caps work, keep'em in but be nice to know why .... so what exactly are the old ones?

Sorry yep they are polarized, I was thinking no they are not non polarized. No brand written on them. The very large power supply caps are Tennessee Electronics. The whole stereo has a negative power supply, and all the caps are marked on their positive sides. I took pictures and made triple sure I put them in correctly.

The top cap is the UKW
Middle cap is the original
Bottom was the replacement TVX

Someone is being held prisoner in a capacitor factory, they bugged one of the caps with code telling of their GPS co-ordinates. He, he, count the thumps

Those Tennessee (or was it Nashville???) capacitors are usually bad in my experience. Allied Radio used them in their transistor amplifiers in the mid 60s and some even split open. The ones that I am referring to are black with what appears to be an epoxy filling on the ends, I think red on the positive and possibly white on the negative.

In any event, because of the vintage of the KLH, it might be a good idea to replace them.

The 2 biggest caps were epoxy filled with just wire leads coming out. I replaced all of them, except the two whose replacements caused the thumping. I'm reckoning the thumping was caused by the lower ESR capacitors have now-a-days. 10uf does seem awful high there, it might have worked with a 4.7 or 2.2uf, but I'm not an engineer.
