Saw this at an estate sale today for $65. Pristine cabinet, but didn't sound good and nothing coming from the right channel except a little weak distorted treble. Googled info says this is a 1965 model with a hybrid amplifier. I can work with tube circuitry, but just don't know enough about transistors and solid state circuitry if there's a problem in the amp (and a restoration topic in another forum does mention crappy transistors in this model) not to mention the enormous size and weight (it was all I could do to pull one end of it out a foot from the wall to look at the chassis). I would have to hire someone (or several someones) to move it across town to my place, plus I really have no room for it. So I reluctantly left it behind. On the other hand, if it were a top of the line President (which apparently was available in a similar, albeit slightly fancier cabinet), I could make room for that, even if I had to move the couch out into the yard....

I would've grabbed it. Those Fisher hybrids are rare and interesting

My dear old Elmer, who has long since departed this world, used to refer to transistors as three legged fuses, still makes me smile to this day. :)

He wasn't wrong, Greg--all it takes is one shorted driver transistor to take out everything in it's downwind path. I had a late 60's Fisher integrated stereo amp. Protection for the outputs? That was when it smoked...that was your cue to shut it down

+1

I had a similar speaker issue and it turned out to be a dirty control. A little DeOxit fixed it. As long as you hear something out of the speaker it's unlikely to be a transistor problem.

I believe that one has ELL80 (6HU8) feeding the final transistor stage. Pricy tube if that ends up being the problem.

It is possible to make an adaptor to use 2 EL95 to replace ELL80

Thanks for sharing the picture. Don't get to see too many units of that vintage.
