I have a Pioneer SX 626 receiver. When I turn it on it takes a few seconds to play; yet it is solid state. Bad power caps?

Does it have a relay?

No relay in that model. I would start by checking the power supply voltages, could be a bad cap there?

With volume at mid range, does the audio come on slowly and distorted (crackly, buzzing, sizzling, etc.), or does it come on abruptly with no distortion?

Comes on with perfect sound! Just that momentary delay like you get on a tube amp warming up. That is why it confused me. A SS receiver does not typically warm up!

A slight delay in non-relay protected, solid state amps is not uncommon. Large-value power supply filter caps used in solid state amps cannot be expected to charge up instantly. I would say your receiver is operating normally.

Is this a new unit to you? Has it done this as long as you've owned it or is this a new symptom? Obviously, if a new symptom, then something's not right. If it's always done it, then it's by design.

How long is "momentary"? Most tube amps take 15 - 20 seconds to warm up. Some are much longer if the preamp tube filaments are powered by the output tubes' cathode voltage.

It's operating normally. Don't look for trouble where there isn't any.
