Yes, we do, and it's a good thing that you were able to make that decision before you had invested a lot of $$$ or time into the amplifier.

absolutely

i had one set start the power transformer "hiss, crackle, pop, frying eggs" stuff after restoration during my 10-12 hour per day for 7 days burn in period. it did not do this in a 1/2 hour preliminary test.

there were a lot of things said in the shop that day, religious stuff too, and i wasn't praying.

..but what is one going to do in that situation ?...beautiful radio...beautiful restoration under the hood, works perfectly...you get a new transformer in that case.

as for the amp, it was not economically feasable to proceed based on condition, which was the dealbreaker.

some things are just not meant to be and this certainly is one of them.

back in the day, i would have been so gung-ho to find a transformer and get it restored, but those days passed about 20 years ago. the interest is just not there anymore, ho hum.

if all things would have been a go for restoration, i also would have done a complete strip-down / repaint job with hammertone or a paintjob by my car buddy.

it would have been a fun and nice way to finish off the radio season as i only have my shop open from late may to august. august is when i start finishing projects up for the closedown in sept.

let it be known that this amplifier has a new home as a parts set.

it will be put to good use.

for its sake, all was not lost.

That's good.

Sometimes it's best to sacrifice one to allow several to be restored.
