I have a couple questions here, though my most important one right now is about the Minifon P55 (Special) that I have just nabbed. I would like to get a few accessory connectors to make dongles for when I go to testing it, but I'm not sure what the connector actually is. (It's the one on the right.) It will be some time before I'm ready to try to power it up, though.

Also, where do you get vintage styled, but currently in production capacitors? My Webster Chicago has one particular one that has two capacitors within the same can that I would like to track down.

<bump>

The more research I do, the more I'm starting to think that this connector is some sort of Protona/Telefunken proprietary thing, so the only way I may be able to get a connector in mass is to make one. Does this seem accurate so far?

Proprietary or not, I'd bet someone has one. I'd try placing a WTB ad in our classifieds with a good photo, and dimensions of at least the main diameter.

As far as your dual capacitor, post up a photo and someone will give you some tips on either finding one, or re-stuffing the one you have (you keep the outside for appearance, but put new capacitors inside)

I haven't thought about stuffing new guts into the old shell. Might try that.

...though I don't quite have the engineering background to derrive decent measurements of the port on the Minifon for getting them made, though I believe I may can use the port itself to cast some plugs. I will need to know what to look for on the "want to buy" thread.

Just post up a WTB that reads something like this... embellish or edit as necessary

WTB: Plug for this Minifon P55 Conn (edit for fewer characters if necessary)
(insert photo here, with a ruler showing the diameter)

Make the photo as clear as possible.. you can post more than one picture.

The classifieds are just like any other forum except for the special rules. You can put in as much text as you wish to support your search for the connector.

The company that I worked for bought/took over/distributed ITT Minifon
stuff.

The P55 accessories included a motor battery external power pack, a
small loudspeaker, and other 'wearable' things.

They went from wire to tape machines.

I still have a few kicking around.

My P 55 is not an ITT.

ITT had fingers everywhere.

You have the true P55 then. I believe they switched from the 1/4 inch phono plug to this new DIN thingie on the Especialle. ...though many of the goodies do look fun, especially that watch.

No, my machine has the original connector. I am searching for it and will photograph
it when I find it. I have two machines., wire spools etc.

They billed the machine as a dicta phone. Of course, some dicta phones
may have come with concealed shoulder holsters, and tie clip microphones.

That leaves me with the question of what the original connector of the P55 is. After looking herehttps://www.cryptomuseum.com/covert ... /index.htm) and in searching up some of the accessories, it looks like the P55 had the phono jack, then they changed it for the Special. The one I showed will be here this evening from the 'Bay. so I can give better photos and info. ...though they passed it off as a P55 as well.

As expected, it needs a belt. I don't see how this flywheel drum comes off as of yet though.
