Hello, I have this Technics ST-8600 tuner. Everything works fine, AM/FM. The problem is when FM muting is switched on I cannot receive any stations. I can see them tune on the meter, and signal strength is good. I have tried several antennas. Many thanks in advance..

I looked it up; it's in Sams MHF-125, which I don't have. However, there's a different Technics tuner in MHF-124, alignment instructions say to adjust VR101 so that it un-mutes with 4.5 microvolt signal. So there's likely an adjustment you can make, maybe numbered differently. I'd expect it works from the same signal that drives the meter. Easy: first try a better antenna (more signal).

Yea it could be weak signals overall. Some tuners have a pot on the back to allow you to set the muting threshold, but there ought to be an adjustment somewhere inside. Or it could be an indication of other issues if actually very strong signals on the signal meter(?) do not unmute.

I have a friend who has one of these tuners. I notice that there are two muting selections. One is called "deep" which I think only unmutes on very strong signals. Like me, he never uses the muting function because, fortunately, unlike some tuners and receivers that allow stereo reception only when in the muting mode, this tuner allows stereo reception even when muting is turned off.
