 Post subject: arvin model number 86L48

could somebody help.
my uncle gave me an arvin reel to reel player in a walnut console,
it is in mint condition.
he's had it since the fifties
is it worth anything and does anyone know who might be interested in buying it.

Are you saying this is a reel-to-reel player (not recorder) mounted in it's own console cabinet? You'd probably need to post a picture of it here so it can be identified. Since you have a model number available, someone could look it up in a Sams Photofacts (service information) index.

Sams only lists an 86L38 under tape and an 86P48 in the regular listings. Those two Sams publications are roughly 1966-1968 vintage so the units are that vintage or slightly older.

86L48 is not shown.

Arvin consoles with their own brand name on them are relatively uncommon, but that does not make them desirable to collectors nor valuable. Most of what Arvin built was for Sears and sold under the Silvertone name.

There is probably a collector, maybe several out there somewhere, who specializes in Arvin products, the hard part is finding out who that is.
