 Post subject: Abbott & Costello's first on Kate Smith Show (?)

I've searched for that episode for years and came to the conclusion that the recording doesn't exist. As a fan of the duo I wanted to hear what their first radio performance sounded like. I heard that Bud used his original stage voice which was higher than what we're used to hearing. The sponsors loved them, but requested that Bud lower his voice and Lou raise his. Supposedly they originally sounded almost the same on radio. If you listen to Lou in the very early years, he put on a very high childlike voice. As time went on he eased off on it quite a bit.

I think there might be an earlier episode, maybe that's the one you are looking for?

Apparently the "Who's on First" routine was originally performed clear back in 1937.

Thank you. I have to check. I heard a couple, but I never seem to find that very first show. I would imagine Kate would've introduced them as a new act.
