I would be interested to know if anyone here knows of any Big Band music being performed today that one could go and see live anywhere.

I love the old 30s and 40s music and have a pretty decent collection on CD and listen to it all the time through my AMT 3000 transmitter on my old tube radios but I would really like to go see it live somewhere.

Thanks,
Frank

Sure, The Glenn Miller, and ( I think ) the Tommy Dorsey Orchs. are still active. Google each to find dates and places. ..... Gregg

Greg, Thanks I did find that the Glenn Miller Band will be playing at a dinner theatre in the Louisville area in June. We may try to make the trip. It looks like fun.

Just to update, we went to the Glenn Miller Orchestra Concert in the Louisville area on Monday and really enjoyed it. Not sure if there are any original band members still playing but there are several pretty old guys in the band. They were very professional and the music was great. I highly recommend attending if they come into your area.

No, I don't think so. Tex Beniky (sp ) passed away not too long ago. - I'm supprised you didn't find anything on the Tommy Dorsey Band. Buddy Morrow was leading it last I heard, at least when they appeared here. ..... Gregg. Glad you enjoyed the trip. Larry O' Brian is a prince of a fellow, and if I remember correctly, came up through the Dorsey Org. .....

Greg, I couldn't find any kind of tour schedule or events planned that referred to the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra although there is lots of information otherwise about the band. Just nothing about any concerts. I would love to go see them if I could find something planned.

What part of the Chattanooga area are you in? Do you know John Wynne, I bekieve he lives in Signal Mountain and is a collector? I also know Rick Taylor and Sammy Smith over in Ooltewah.

Greg, Thanks,I do go through there fairly often. Our Grandkids live in the Atlanta area and we also stop and see John and Sammy some. I promised Rick I would come and see his collection so maybe when I make that trip I'll give you a shout and see if we can stop there on the way.

I don't know how to post the link but if you go to loudcity.com there are several stations on there that play Big Band music. One of them is called Radio Dismuke but I think there are one or two others. Enjoy!

Thanks Frank. :D

I actually have loudcity's "doo wop express" already bookmarked. I didn't realize that they had other stations as well, duh!

"Clean chassis".

As we used to say, from "the girl with the classy chassis".

I think I'm the only kid my age that actually likes the Big Band era. I once made the mistake of talking about it in class once upon a time, and some ditz thought that Woody Herman was Woody's (from Toy Story) last name!

Actually, my son and his girlfriend, who are 19 and 18 respectively, have both liked Big Band music forever. We all went to the Glenn Miller concert last October, and it was great. About the 4th time we have seen them locally.

Thank God! We're not alone!

I guess it's the GaGa-blah-blahs that get all the musical attention these days.

Here's a local station for me. Totally listener supported, and they sound better online than on the actual radio - something about tower frequency. They play music from the late 20s to the late 60s, and a TON of big band is fused in with light jazz, Broadway classics, movie classics, and so on.
