Hi all,
I'm working on a 1940-41 Zenith 10S531 with the 10A1 chassis. The volume control is shot. These controls used a thin carbon coated cardboard strip inside which wears out over time. I tried taking mine apart to "clean" but it all just crumbled.

Please check to see if you have this control on a junker chassis. The control has an on off switch and multiple taps and it may be unique to this chassis. The Zenith part number is 63-1074

Thanks for any help you can provide,
Mark

Mark, I have been supplying that control for years now.... its a 2 meg with taps at 500K and 1 meg, and a power switch. also, it has a unique shaft to fit the coupler. Finally, the original had two lugs reversed from normal positioning. The wiper is moved to the opposite side of the control and a dummy lug is where the wiper would normally be and it has the yellow dot there so you know whats what.
email me at moppat at comcast dot net and I'll get you going.
