I don't really have an issue with this type of change, as long as it makes sense. 1,000 µF is 1mF. Mili is already a standard for 1,000 µ.
I think this is just an attempt to use unit prefixes people already somewhat familiar with. But for folks who are already familiar with all the standard prefixes for scientific units it comes across as awkward.
