Guys .....E-BAY and GLOBAL SHIPPING ---- think radio tubes have MERCURY in them...........they are classifying them as mercury vapour lamps

I tried to explain that no radio tube ever used mercury in them

+1

However some radio tubes do have mercury in them (like
866 mercury vapor tubes which are fairly common) and others
are radioactive. Wonder if the enviro-weenies restrict shipping of
CFL's which also contain mercury.

I might as well get out of restoring radios as a hobby and go into clock restoration , unless there are unknown dangerous metals in that too.....
Going to start selling off my collection before the sky falls on them too.....

Look at it from their point of view. All they know is there are some isolated tubes that contain mercury. They will never have the training to determine which tubes contain mercury. So all tubes are restricted items.

Yes....I agree ..... but they should do some research before making this decision.... it is just saying the radiation from a cell phone is hazardous , let's ban them all.....

guess the education system of some people failed again.....

No doubt this is rolled down from the airlines to the third party global technology and shipping provider, Pitney Bowes Inc.

What happens to the rejected items as they don't appear to have a returns system in place?

Greg.

How about the recent case where a student in grade school (I think) was suspended for bringing a radio vacuum tubes to school to show the class.
They ruled it was dangerous material.

I figure that most millenial-aged enviro-weenies (I borrowed another member's terminology; see above) don't even know or care what an electronic vacuum tube is (or, if one of them has Hg, they all probably have Hg....not) nor do they have any idea how we made calculations before electronic calculators, using slide rules, and using the printed tables in the backs of our trig & calculus textbooks, BC (before computers).

So, how do they destroy all of those evil mercury-containing vacuum tubes? I'll bet the brainiacs smash them and pitch the remains into a landfill. Yep, that'll fix it ...

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't one of Kirk's items mysteriously reappear on ebay after being confiscated by the global shipping program.

Greg.

You are absolutely correct, they even used his photos from the original auction for the new auction. I still feel this is fraud in the highest degree, totally unethical business practice. Perhaps someone needs to persuade the attorneys general of the states where eBay and the shipping company are located to look into prosecution, since the basis for their confiscation is easily proven to be invalid and would never stand up in a court of law. It matters not that the seller and buyer were refunded their money, since the items were confiscated under false pretenses and then resold.
