I just acquired a Silvertone 4485 that has a 6N6 as an output tube. What, if any, tube can I use as a substitute?

A quick search of Ebay turns up many 6N6G tubes. No need for a sub.

Well, I can get one from my radio club on Saturday. I was just working on it today and wanted to see if there was a possibility of getting it to play.

One good place for subs: http://www.nj7p.org/Tubes/SQL/Tube_query.php?Type=6N6GNote that I had to enter 6N6 GDon't spend a lot of calories on this--Bob Dobush has 6N6s for $7 used / $12 new. (6AB6 is a different story--2 of my suppliers don't list it--I found one new one for $35)

Use 6V6, 6K6 or 6F6 tubes. When you do this lift connection to pin #8 and add a 470 ohm resistor in series with this wire. Best if you also connect a 10 - 25mf @ 50 volt cap across the resistor. You can use the radio with any of these tubes if you don't have a 6N6.
Advantage of 6N6, didn't require the above bias components.
