i checked the tube manuals i have and online and i cant find anything on a 7700 tube. i also checked the listings of tube sellers and no 7700 tube. my tube tester roll chart has no listing for a 7700 tube.

since there is no listing to purchase a new one if it is bad is there possibly a substitute tube for it if the one i have is bad. this is from my amp in a different thread.

Same as a 6C6 according to one online tube dealer, even though that doesn't sound right to me.

there is a 6c6 tube next to it so i wonder if that was origionally a 7700 and was replaced. i dont have any info on this so no tube layout diagram. since the 6c6 is listed as a sub it could be the 6c6 was a replacement.

7700 is a premium 6C6. Believe it has extra mechanical support inside to reduce microphonics.

In the old days of tube broadcast and theatre sound equipment, there were several premium tubes available, with lower noise and lower microphonics. Another version of the 6C6 was the 1603.

This carried on into the tube hi-fi era, with tubes like the 12AX7/7025.

thankyou for the info. working on radios and tvs i do not recall seeing this but i do remember seeing tubes with two different type numbers. i allways assumed one was the american numbering system and one was the european numbering system. now i am wondering if some of these may have been an improved version of the first tube number. i wish i had asked more questions about this while my teacher was still alive.

My Avo Valve characteristic meter lists 6C6 and 7700 as same settings.

A 77 tube is listed as a direct sub for the 6C6 in the old Allied Radio Electronics Data Hand book.

The tubes are close, but not the same tube spec wise.

Tube Lore says 7700 is a premium 6C6 non RMA coded as Westinghouse.
