Hi ,
Just got a call from a friend who found a WE 422A rectifier in his stash and he would like to know a realistic price to ask for it. He said it tests very strong.
Thanks,
Henry

Might bring beer money - for a year! Put it on eBay. Better if you can test it though.

Go to Ebay, search for it, and select "sold" listings. There are none currently for sale, but in the past they have brought a surprising amount of $$. Never ceases to amaze me. But for those kind of buck$, it would have to be tested on a Hickok at the least, and guaranteed by you. Beware.

Thanks for your replies.
I'm not sure what tester he used. I did look at e-bay sold listings prior to posting and the prices were all over the place which was the reason for posting.
I think they ran from $153.00 -$600.00 So I guess there is no "normal"/realistic price.
Thanks again.
Henry

It might be more difficult, and perhaps less income when sold, since there is only one. The audio nuts like matched pairs, which may command the much higher prices (whether or not they are truly matched)

I just looked up that Rectifier on the auction site as well as the Internet. Who in their right mind would pay that amount of money for this tube? I am not naïve but really? (A Phool and his money are soon parted)

but but but.... it says Western Electric on it. It HAS to sound better enough to cost well over $500. You do know what $500 sounds like ???

If you use matched WE rectifier tubes in your two mono blocks, you get better separation. From your money

I read it on the internet

But nothing on earth can beat a WE 274B rectifier (must be the engraved base version for best definition and widest spatial soundstage), be prepared to pay up to $ 1000 (and more) for a N.O.S specimen.
Ordinary (non- audiophile) people like you and me will use the common readily available and cheap 5U4G rectifier instead but they don't know what they're losing (WE 274B buyers surely knows: their money)

And I worked for the phone company. The Central Office threw these darn things into the bin when they upgraded to "solid state". Shudda, wudda, cudda.

I occasionally find WE tubes in loose lots but they are always something like a mini tube of no interest, such as 6AS6 or others. My only contact with a 300B WE is testing some for somebody once. That and a big blue balloon Arcturus #10, I believe it was. That had to make some dough.
