Hi Guys.....

Has anyone noticed the amount of commercials on you tube lately? That site used to be my goto site for watching good informative videos on just about anything. And it was a pleasant respite from all the commercials on paid TV. (remember when the cable companies tauted that their channel would be commercial free?) But getting back to You Tube.....I'll be sitting and being totally engrossed in a repair procedure or something like that and up pops not one, but two 15 second commercials! Those thirty seconds are lost forever and your train of thought ruined. For me anyway it'll take a minute or two to catch up on what was going on. Sometimes, there are more commercials than there is video content....a sad commentary. I pay a small fortune for cable every month and do use it for a lot of research on many subjects however, I'm slowly drifting away from You Tube as a pleasant place to watch anything anymore.

Anyone have the same sentiments?

...Jim

Since changing to Opera browser with built in ad blocker, it even blocks the youtube video ads and I no longer see them.

I did not realize that there were so many ads until i tried to watch something in google

I click skip ad at the beginning of videos when it comes up. I have seen the ads pop up in the middle of longer videos though. Nothing you can do about it. Just wait till the kids get the chip implanted in their heads to interface with media some day. You will be talking to them and they will all at once freeze up, get a glazed look in their eyes and be silent for a couple minutes. Then they will come back to reality and say, "da** I hate commercials!"

Your repairman has to specifically→ check the box saying “Allow advertisements to be displayed alongside my videos.”

He's after the dollar...
Message him, I would.

Ever since installing ad block plus in Chrome several years ago I haven't seen a single youtube ad.

Yup, I block them also and the videos play seamlessly. I need to see if I can block them on my iPhone as the amount of ads is insane.

You can pay them $11.99 a month for YouTube Premium (formerly YouTube Red) which includes ad free viewing.

Hardly worth it for me. I probably would create way less than $1 a month in add revenue for them. On devices that don't support Adblock, you can simply refresh the page and that will get rid of the ads in any particular video.

I've been uBlock Origin for over a year and it's good. The only thing it will not stop are the pop-ups pushing another song by the same artist, or another song by a different artist. Those have been fairly recent additions on Youtube. And the software shows the ads blocked count. Another thing it blocks are ads when I play Words With Friends 2 on my desktop.
