well folks, i will be taking some time off from everything.

i have a very rare 2x1 cm ovid spinal tumor located in the L2 area inside my spine.

last thursday, i saw THE best neurologist/neurosurgeon east of the mississippi river. the neurosurgeon that i met was simply amazing. he has done this surgery on famous athletes and people whose lives depended on him.

(nothing but the best for the rabbit, LOL)

here is what we know:

this is 99.999% benign and NON cancerous.

it all started the day i was born. some nerve endings in my spine had a defect that caused them to keep growing.

last fall, i developed severe sciatic and hip joint nerve pain.... pain that causes me to scream at night, walk with a cane during the day, limp, fall over, barely get around, or sometimes function like a 20 year old. with neurological pain, there is no rhyme or reason as to when, why, or how.

this did not respond to therapy or chiropractic in the last 9 months.

i had a 3 inch numb patch above my right knee for the last 20 years.

i developed irritable bowel about 3 years ago. all i have to do is eat a gumdrop and i am running to the toilet and then it is running like a faucet and exploding every time, much less if i eat a steak dinner. these are all symptoms of the tumor.

nobody here has ever seen one of these and i will have emergency surgery on July 23rd of this month. the good news is that this is just another tuesday afternoon for the neurosurgeon.

they will take two bones out of my spine, remove the tumor, and put me back together.

it will be a 5 hr surgery, 2 days in ICU, and 3 days in a regular room, and then 6 weeks of lifting nothing but a fork and a glass of diet pepsi along with a BK double whopper, large fry, small onion ring, and a large vanilla milkshake for dessert. T-bone steak and fries with creamed corn from Applebees is in there too.

i can't wait to have it done. the last 9 months have been a royal painful hell.

if this tumor is not removed, i will lose control of my bowels, bladder, and leg functions. that could happen in 3 months or another 30 years. nobody knows.

i have been assured by the man himself that i will be fine and that it is just another surgery for him.

i will be fine. i can be too big of a bastard to let this kind of thing kill me.

the sole purpose is to inform everyone that nobody every knows what tomorrow will bring and that to NEVER settle for nothing less than the best when it comes to a rare health situation.

even the most subtle symptoms that point to a problem in the perfectly right direction can be wrong, devastatingly wrong.

here is the tumor in all its glory.

i'm special  .

i'm ONE in ONE-HUNDRED-THOUSAND.

steve

Make it strawberry and that's what I eat. All 130 pounds of me.

I've got a cancer even more rare, eccrine carcinoma. Almost nothing is known about it. It's on the surface, could have it removed but I'm getting too old for anaesthesia to be that good an idea [Joan Rivers]. With 1 in 10,000 skin to start with.

But don't mind me, I'm doomed anyway and I'm OK with it.

Just take care and get back to it mate. S'gonna be great.

All the best, Steve. Your positive attitude will contribute mightily to your successful healing and recovery.
Being a recently retired neurosurgery nurse, may I be curious and ask who is your surgeon?

Regards -

All the best wishes for your surgery and recovery.
Take a tip from me that I've gained from my several surgeries. Treat your nurses with RESPECT and be courteous to them. Be the Good Patient. They will return it to you and make you stay much better. Believe me I've been both kinds of patients and much prefer the good patient.

Wishing the Rabbit the best of luck with your surgery. It is going to feel good to get back to normal after it is gone.

Take it easy man and know that you're a valued asset to this weird little community. Make sure and feel free to come on here anytime and talk about whatever you want if you just need a place to unwind. I am super glad the tumor is non-cancerous. Anyway here is to a speedy recovery so that you can get back with hording radios.

thanks everyone

i've met my share of amazing famous people including the current president, but this guy is a different kind of amazing. i was just awestruck by his knowledge, understanding, professionalism (he's "one of the guys" too) and answers to every question that one could think.

then again, he does not get to this level being anything less.

all will be well.

i can't wait to get out of lower back and leg nerve pain.

steve
