Latest is Ford Motor is offering NFT. What is a NFT? Did not even explain it in the article. Other articles are as bad.

You can take that to mean anything you like.

But, it reminds me of the Christmas gift given with a promise inside.

Think of it as a way to get your money, tie it up and you may or not get interest for it while you money deflates from inflation when a vehicle is finally delivered.

My recent discussion with a Toyota dealer had opened my eyes to the chip shortages and the fact there are sweeping changes coming to vehicles which, may, include only hybrid or battery options...

I went and found the article. What a piece of rubbish "journalism".

Probably means No F'ing Truth about their Found On Road Dead (FORD) vehicles.

I'm kidding... but not by much.

It's a Non-Fungible Token, but it took me searching three articles to find it. What does that mean. It means FORD can't manage to sell you vehicles because they can't produce them, so they are trying to be in a sort of pseudo-banking business instead. Great. What a load of c**p.

They can't produce them because there are no up to date chips for the ECU's. So they are capturing your business with a token of promises, to have a car for you when the "Chips are in'

This basically what I had learned at my Toyota dealer this past Thursday. When the possibility of an early turn in for my 2020 with 4K miles was considered. I though I could turn it in for a Hybrid...

Toyota does not have chips either and like all other new/used car dealers, now "scrounging" for used cars...

Here. See if this helps you understand.

https://www.forbes.com/advisor/investin ... ble-token/

Long story short, it appears that Ford intends to create Ford-related digital content and will sell the ownership of it as an NFT. The thing about digital art, unlike physical art, is that it is technically easy to copy digital art. The NFT is the token of actual "ownership" of the digital art.

Why is it so popular? Because there is endless demand for ways to launder money.

The article certainly appears to be a thinly veiled satire piece from a real engineer.

Reminds me of the VW attempt to sell Fahrvergnügen, a created advertising slogan in pseudo German that was destined to become a mock meme.

Like Curtis , I make up my own words for it often not complementary and then read it back with the new words. Not out loud though

Greetings to the Forum:

I'm just guessing here, but I presume the "Non-Fungible Token" is made of copper or otherwise chemically treated to prevent the growth of fungus... :D

The reporters are a different generation than you. The people who they write for know what they are . A lot of it has to do with keeping up with current events and not isolating yourself to just what you like. Keep the curiosity and it opens your mind.

This is not a news story. Spend ten seconds of critical thinking and you'd realize that it would never appear on a real news site.

The use of non-standard abbreviations may help the writer type faster, but the down side is that it makes what he is writing much less clear. For example, if I typed that I had to delay my trip to the store because of my LRT, what in the world am I writing about. Well, I am typing that I had a flat left rear tire. But I may as well have saved my energy because no one would have a clue what I am writing about. The same with a lot of posts here on this forum. I was reading a post a few minutes ago and only have a guess as to what the fellow was talking about because of the abbreviations that he was using. The same thing, although maybe not as quite as confusing are the made up names for common things such as Walmart and ebay for example.

FWIW IMHO I'd never buy an NFT SMH.

I too, make up my own abreviations. NFT in my book would be something said in these new mumble rap songs...

Heh. Try working in the tech biz. Some of the meetings I'm in sound like we're speaking a foreign language. Usually abbreviations for complicated processes.

Not anymore and certainly not without years of re-engineering to go backwards to non computerized engines

Or maybe ummmmm what’s that word…… oh! Electrics

But of course they are computerized too. Fraid it’s baked into the cake now

One cure to the chip shortage might be to start making them here again, but hell, that will never fly either, will it? And it certainly would not be a quick process

It's quite easy to make a non-computerized car.

However hardly anyone would buy it.

By what measure is it "quite easy" ? Are you talking about a single person making a single car, or a major automaker changing over all their mass production lines to make non computerized cars? Neither is "easy".

non computerized AND meet today's emission standards?

I can't see that possible. Not without choking the performance to practically nothing.
