I did a lookup on Dr. Crippen, noting his name had been mentioned in at least two UK TV-series. Low and behold, he was captured fleeing by wireless telegraphy and a fast steamship! See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawley_Harvey_CrippenCaught for the rogue that he was... With a bit of embellishment (and flying sparks) the story could make an interesting radio drama... Chas

Not having opened the links here, I remember within the last several years there was a documentary on Dr. Crippen that raised some very serious concerns about his trial. Enough so that it seemed reasonable to request the case be re-examined with modern tools. One particular, it was claimed the tissue sample presented as being from the murdered wife was from a man. It was also claimed that evidence that could have been used by the defense was not shared by the prosecution.

Greetings to the Forum: My favorite anecdote about being caught by wireless concerned Robert Watson-Watt, who was one of the prominent figures in the British development of radar in WW II. This happened in the late 1950's or early 1960's. He was in Canada, driving a Jaguar to a conference on electronic warfare, and was late, so he was speeding. He was pulled over by an RCMP who proceeded to give him, along with a speeding ticket, a long winded technical discussion about how the radar gun that the officer had used to log his speed worked. Watson-Watt didn't want to arouse the officer's ire any further, so he sat fuming through the lecture on how his own invention worked. Does Canada have double jeopardy limitations? Seems that that might qualify. Regards,
