It got so obnoxious I had to change my phone number as I was getting phone calls up to every 10 minutes. At least 40 a day all selling same thing. Supplement Medicare insurance. Unbelievable.

I get about one every few days. Usually it's something medical like you say. I have an VOIP home phone and hardly ever turn my Tracfone on unless I want to make a call.

i am inclined to think you are bringing this on yourself coupled with your scams thread.

I have a plain old land line and an answering machine. It does a great job of screening. Most callers hang up during the announcement or just after. When one is stored I listen and hit the delete key if it's spam. I keep the sound off unless I'm expecting an important call and that's not often. I also keep the bells off so incoming calls can't disturb me. It's amazing how tranquil it became here when I started managing my phone this way 20 years ago.

RRM,
I'am with you. I do the very same thing. Life is so much more tranquil.

I don't get phone calls on my land line, and if I do, I don't know, because I have the bell turned off. My friends and family know that I never answer my land line and they only use my cell. I keep the land line because it is tied to my internet and because I want the 9-11 capability if needed (like if my cell happens to have a very low battery).

Just within the past week I have been getting calls that the caller ID says are "Med Benefits" and a couple other health insurance robocall scams, probably the same thing Jim is getting. But mine are on my business number and I can't just leave it to an answering machine or assorted screening methods. The numbers are always spoofed and never once the same, so blocking doesn't work. Services such as "NoMoRobo" don't work on my business line. I have been looking at the caller ID and just lifting and replacing the handset. There has never yet been anyone at the other end, too. These have to be coming from the same source and it must be making millions of calls all week. I was getting 13-15 a day but now it's down to 2 or 3 and that's tolerable.

I thought Congress was doing something about this? Yeah, sure....

Tomorrow (October 1) the new requirements are required to be fully implemented or carriers will have their traffic blocked.

I noticed that all of the daily spam calls have abruptly stopped for me. Looking at my call log I received 5 on 9/16 and none since. My carrier is Verizon.

i dont hear those callers.
and very few leave messages.
mine wont ring if caller is not in my contacts.
i think some detect this and try rapid fire with close numbers.
probably better to let ringer expire than to instantly go to vm.

Same here. It just works.

We dropped our land line years ago. It ended up being nothing but spam calls, so it was a total waste of money. We have Verizon for our wireless carrier, and the volume of spam calls has dropped to almost nothing....maybe one every couple of days. It seems that at least for now, they've gotten things under control.

Agreed John, same here.

Ditto.

But my 'landline' phone number comes through a cellphone site as does my internet connection. All smoke and mirrors to me.

Maybe the new requirements are being implemented. I only had one "probably spam" call today, and an "unknown" call. I hope the unknown or private number doesn't become a workaround for these robo-callers, or I will block those, too.

I had 5 of the same "MedBenefits" spam calls today, October 1 or not. I hope they diminish over the coming days...
