Yea. Well. By the time they sound the all clear, if ever, other events are gonna pick up some of that pent-up hamfest desire and probably some of the less prominent ones are gonna be absolutely mobbed this year. Lot of stuff to sell has been piling up all over. Lot of people want to avoid shipping handling fees returns and want cash in hand.

Why would the jump to this decision so soon? I don't understand.

Probably has a lot to do with the time frame required to book a venue, non-refundable deposits on that as well as lining up vendors for food and whatever else needs to be committed to.
That sort of thing would need to happen now or have already taken place, in order to hold an event of any size in late spring or early summer.
I would reasonably expect that the costs of holding such an event would be at least equal to what the radio clubs go through to hold any of the bigger shows. Easily into 5 figures of expenses by the time all is said and done.

Guess that makes sense. Didn't think about all the logistics involved.

They mentioned other "things" as part of the decision. That club is gonna be hurting before too long, that event has been their cash cow for decades and they are probably financially worried by now, after two years.

Clubs are on "hold" for now. Little income, but also little expense. If they were in good shape before, they should still be in good shape after. .

The Dayton Amateur Radio Association still has expenses involving the club house. Taxes, electricity, upkeep as well as the DARA communications van with gas licensing, insurance and its upkeep. So yeah, the club still has significant expenses.

Our South Jersey GCARC hamfest is the biggest around (though nowhere near Dayton-size), and we start work in March for the September event! The date was confirmed and depost given to the venue in December.
