So sad. I guess he lived a long and good life. He was my favorite drummer of all time. Part of the wonderful Wrecking Crew.

An unsung hero, but his sound lives on. 90 years is a good run. RIP, Mr. Blaine.

The list of recordings that he played on is amazing, including some really big hits.

The list of TWC contributions to the spectrum of music as we knew it is so expansive, I have yet to come across a single comprehensive compilation. Any genre, any style, if you could chart it-- or like say, Brian Wilson, hum it-- they could play it definitively in a take or two. All without demolishing instruments or hotel rooms or the other quirks and flourishes associated with pop acts.

By all accounts Hal was a guy ANYone 'would like to have a beer with'. And he would, when professional demands left him breathing space. Looking around, quite few conspicuous talents about whom one could say that today. In a wildly alternate universe where I had that kind of talent, I don't have the constitution or attitude to do what he did. Geez, I barely survived a year-long Honolulu house band gig in my late 20s and that was before I acquired my litany of indulgent habits.

Jam on, Hal. Thanks and high admiration.
