I may be going off the deep end, but I can't come up
with lyrics for one of her songs.
I've tried Google for a list, but come up empty.

It begins----I'm on the top of the world looking down
on creation & the only-----.
Maybe it's not Anne Murrays song at all, but I believe
it is sung by her.

This forum has more knowledgable information than
any place in the USA, so any help is appreciated.

Do a google search for your verse in quotes ;

"I'm on the top of the world looking down on creation & the only"

and see what you come up with.

"Top of the World" by Richard Carpenter. The Carpenters recorded it first, probably the version you remember. Lynn Anderson also had a hit with it, among others. I'm not sure if Anne Murray ever recorded it.

Anne Murray's fine as far as she goes. But she's no Karen Carpenter! :D

Only one of Anne Murray's songs dazzled me, and that one was her 1974 hit "You Won't See Me". In fact, I had regularly played that 45 RPM record at parties.

While Anne Murray is not on the top of my favorite female singers list, she blows me away with "Can I have this dance for the rest of my life ?". Perhaps it is because that is how I met my wife, on the dance floor and I knew that she was the one for me. My wife passed away years ago but that song still chokes me up, I guess I am an old softy and romantic.

Yes, "You Won't See Me". Perhaps I should have proofread it before posting. Thanks for the correction.

She ripped off the Beatles and created a hit from it.

Actually, I think that the Beatles ripped that song off from some other party too. In any case, no one could have performed better with that song than Murray.

Sorry, but it's a McCartney original from the Rubber Soul album, just checked Wikipedia, can't always trust the brain files.

Yes, Paul McCartney wrote the lyrics so I stand corrected. Undoubtedly, the Beatles performed marvelously with the song, but Anne Murray obviously rocked.

Yes, she did, but her record producer should get some credit for that.

We first saw Anne Murray on a funky B+W TV program from Nova Scotia called 'Singalong Jubilee'. Just a bunch of folk singers that performed weekly, but were lucky to be in Canada where they could get national coverage. The CBC mandate always has been to promote Canadian content, no matter what.
Shes a hometown girl type I think, never went to California like Joni or Neil.

The pedal steel player on some of her 1970s recordings is worth mentioning, Such as "Could I have this Dance" and the Kenny Loggins song "Even tho We ain't Got Money". He made those two songs and got no recognition, so be it.
(That's an Emmons Double-10 if you must know, pedal rods push-pull where Sho-Buds and their knockoffs are pull-pull, pedals pull either up or down.) (From the brain files. )

I'm going off on a tangent here, but I can't help recalling that unfortunate episode in the summer of 2005 that we had with two Canadian marine cops. At the time, we were fishing on a long, shallow and weeded lake in Ontario. What happened was that one of the life preservers which we had in the boat was made in the USA, and those two cops chased us right out of the lake because of that. In fact, as soon as one of those two cops spotted the life preserver, he said: "This is trash as it's not Canadian approved".

That sounds like an excuse to get y'all out of his favorite fishing hole. A wannabe got a summer job, eh?

The wording is "CSA approved" which is similar to your Underwriters Lab. Lots of radios have a CSA sticker on the chassis.

The rule I mentioned, not just for the CBC but all radio stations, dates way back to the beginnings of broadcast radio. DJ's are expected to play a percentage of Canadian music to support Canadian artists. So as if the usual repetition isn't bad enough, the same two dozen songs get played forever, including lots of Anne Murray.
