And it's fifty years since American Pie hit the charts. It's probably why I know that history.

I lived that history.

I came home from Jr. High School that day, picked up the afternoon paper on the driveway, opened it up, and when I saw the headlines, felt like I had been kicked in the stomach.

Buddy Holly was and still is my favorite R&R singer.

I liked the movie about Buddy Holly and the Crickets starring Gary Busey. What I find most impressive is the incredible sound quality they were able to achieve with just a three man band. Buddy was a very skilled musician who seemed to understand how the sound worked.

Originally Buddy Holly got the plane for himself and the Crickets, but Waylon Jennings gave his seat up to J.P. Richardson, and Tommy Alsup gave his up to Ritchie Valens.

Yes, he was great. We shared the same birthday. I really miss Stevie Ray Vaughn.

Going way back, we lost Glenn Miller in 1944. About twenty years later, Patsy Cline. In 1969, Ricky Nelson. In 1997, John Denver.

Seriously, the odds are staggering.

Thanks.

Tracy's father died in 1985, not 1969, which gave him time to do "Garden Party".

Thx for the correction. I had the year of that song in mind when I posted.

Buddy said "I hope y'all freeze on that bus". Waylon said "Yeah well I hope your plane crashes", something he regretted for the rest of his life. Even though it's just words, you never get to take them back.

Yes, I was shocked and saddened by John Prine's death.
