Greetings:

It has been a few years (2005) since the question 'Who made Silvertone Television Model 8130, chassis 431.202 for Sears' but I have not seen or have missed the reply.

Belmont / Raytheon was the initial guess but the circuit and component part numbering does not seem to match the 431 record players. Silvertone Model 7148 chassis 431.188; Model 7148A chassis 431.188-1; and Model 8144 chassis 431.199.

Does anyone know for sure who was "Source 431" for Sears in the late 1940s?

Thank you.

John

Show us photos of the set, and the chassis. Maybe someone can identify it. Sears often contracted with the lowest bidder back in those days before they arranged with Warwick to make them the main supplier of home electronics in the 50's. There were some pretty obscure suppliers.

Greetings Dennis:

The television set is the Silvertone Model 8130, chassis No. 431.202 that was dated by Sam's PhotoFact as November 1948 (Set 49 Folder 21). I do not own that television set.

I'm curious about who was the Sears manufacturer because the selenium power supply and the multivibrator systems for chassis 431.202 are a tad unique for the late 1940s. The circuit is nothing not like a Colonial / Sylvania, Air-King, Stewart Warner or Tele-Tone chassis that Sears seemed to favor for televisions in the late 1940s and early 1950s.

I thought that someone might have access to a copy of a 1948-52 Sears "DIV 57 Standard Nomenclature Index" that would give the name and address of Source Code 431.

Thank you.

John

Greetings to all:

I received a very helpful PM that set me on the right track of pre-1950 televisions manufactured by Telequip Radio Company.

I can now say that Sears Source Code 431 is indeed the Telequip Radio Company; 1901 South Washtenaw Ave; Chicago. Later the television production moved to 2559 West 21st Street in Chicago.

The verification was found on the American Radio History website and was very clear. I'm lucky that the information was searchable.

Thank you.

Very interesting; another mystery solved! I wonder how long that Telequip was in business. One old-time TV technician that I used to work with remembered that set, and said it was a "dog".
