Hey everyone,

I picked up a Zenith System 3 somebody left out on the curb. I have tried to do some research to determine if it has any value, but I cannot find another one similar to it. If anyone could provide me information or an estimate value that would be greatly appreciated. I attached 2 photos but can provide more if needed. Thanks.

With the built in radio that was probably a hotel/motel set. If it has a wired remote, then maybe hospital set. As far as value, gamers like those types of sets.

System 3 sets, except for some modern style cabinets like the Avanti are, generally worthless to TV collectors (who comprise the vast majority of members here) most of whom want sets atleast 10 years older than System 3 sets of the 80s.

Retro gamers may find value in it but you need to ask a forum for retro gamers to know what it's worth to them.

Agree with the previous observations that gamers are the only ones interested in that age of TV sets. Sometimes they will buy sets of that age which are in proper working condition and cosmetically presentable. They don't usually have the knowledge to repair TV's though.

To anyone else, it may have serious negative value because in many areas they can't be disposed of without incurring hazardous waste fees.

Post the model number - I probably have the Zenith service literature in my library. We subscribed for 9 years, all System 3 sets, and half paper, half fiche. We had to support the TVs in the Navy barracks here - 270 sets initially, all System 3s, so it paid to have the info.

Your System 3 is from abt 1980. Its an institutional set so you
wont find it in the usual factory info. With the radio it was probably
a motel set. No real value except maybe to a gamer. The consumer sets
sold more than any other brand at the time. They were easy to fix on the
module level. There are common problems that were easy BUT the design
was more complex than most.
Try plugging it in. If you get "snow" it probably works OK.

Thank you all so much for your quick responses. It makes sense now that it came from a motel since there is a sticker on the top of tv explaining how to use it. Disappointed there is likely not much value, but didn't pay anything for it anyway. My wife will be glad to have it out of the house and to the dump.

Id hate to see it go to the dump.
I had a nice Hotel model Zenith with an AM/FM radio built in. I loved the thing and used it until the death of NTSC.
A friend of mine also fell in love with it because he had one like it himself, but his parents threw it away. I decided that he should have it instead, so its now his.

I worked on many of the various hotel TVs Zenith made at the TV shop. This was by far my favorite.

Put it in the free section of craigslist, or put it at the curb with a free sign on it, even without disposal fees most places will still charge you to take it to the dump.
