You'll need to check in the manual what channel the STB is outputting on. It must be an RF output from the STB, NOT a Video output.

Then tune the TV to that channel.

Do you have the instructions for the digital converter? You have to select channel 3 or 4 on the Sony and do all the channel changing on the digital converter.
The digital converter has to search for which digital channels can be found at your location before it can be used. That is just one thing that could be the problem.
You may have to give us more detailed information. Are you using cables with F screw on connectors?
The connections for video are push on and are called "RCA phono" or just RCA.

The KV-1800UB is a British PAL set, so no channel 3 or 4. It has a continuous UHF tuner only. I would check that the digital box has an RF modulator built in, and check which channel it's set to. It's possible that the antenna output jack on the box is just a pass through. If that's the case, then you can use an external RF modulator.

For a British system TV the STB's modulator must output its sound on 6MHz. And of course the video is PAL.
