Hello all. I have recently come across a case with an Akai VT-350, VC-300, and some other old equipment. I've found this forum via google search, to a thread that mentioned a VT-100. I, like 99.95% of people, am entirely unfamiliar with this equipment. I have since researched the basics successfully - an early 80s black and white video recording device - but it seems rare enough that I can't even tell how rare it is. Basically I'm trying to research what I have while maybe posting some photos for people who might be interested in seeing one if there's not a lot of documentation of them online.

Everything seems in pretty good shape. There is a tape in the player, and when I was testing it, the tape did play on the small monitor attached to the player, with sound. For some reason the eject button doesn't seem to operate, which is weird as I'd assume it was a purely mechanical operation. Maybe user error, not sure. There is a user manual and some other accessories. I will now try to post some photos on here. If there's any interest or questions I can try to answer them, but I am not a mechanically-inclined person and probably can't/won't be able to open it up and show X or Y.

*edit - apparently I am unable to post photos since I am a "new user." I will post photos when my account opens up.

Here is a site that offers the manual for download.>>

It won't eject because the belt that drives the thread mecha has broken or melted.

There are places to get replacement belts. Here is one source http://www.russellind.com/prbline/prb.htm
I did one time find an O ring at the hardware store that worked for one recorder.

These are probably fairly rare, since they were a short-lived product using a format that never caught on. Rarity does not necessarily equal value, however; there are rather few folks who collect these, and essentially nobody uses them anymore. (That is to say, there's almost zero market for them.) If you have an interest in making it work for your own amusement, you should talk with Richard Diehl ("labguy") since he has (or once had) that system, and is interested in and knowledgeable about old video recorders and cameras. His site is http://www.labguysworld.com/index.html.
