I got into this hobby due to a fascination with exotic early 1920's radios and that was a strict limit I set for myself. Nothing later and NO SUPERHETS! There is nothing exotic about superhets. Well then I discovered Hallicrafters and OK, superhets are good if they have shortwave bands. But NO TRANSOCEANICS. Nothing exotic about them. But as it turns out Hallicrafters made three TO clones, four if you count the Capehart model they made. OK, and by now my resolve is really evaporating, no Zeniths. Well a couple of Zeniths and an RCA clone followed soon enough. Absolutely NO TRANSISTORS however. Come on I'm almost as old as the transistor, older than almost any commercial application of them, older that the 9V transistor battery, transistor radios just don't seem like antiques to me.

And so it is that I only have three, Zeniths all, 1000, 3000, and 7000 Transoceanics. The two later ones arrived in working condition, the 1000 needs work. I probably use the 7000 more than any of my radios due to its portability.

All of my self imposed limits are in tatters by now. I used to work for Motorola so I have two of their portables, a B150 bicycle radio, and a 301 automobile radio, all pre 1960 AM broadcast only tube superhets, and all but the 301 have been restored.

My apologies for the tube Stratoworld in the photo below. I believe they made a transistor version or two didn't they....

I've looking for a radio for the work office and was just gifted this Toshiba RM-201FA but my mom. It plays, albeit faintly...likely a dirty volume control or some leaky electrolytics.

I haven't had much success finding a schematic online...does anyone have one handy? Thanks!

New finds
Amazing week, I picked up a GE 676 transistor at a flea market. Didn't know what it was at the time, the dealer gave it to me for buying his Emerson 888 for $20.
Researched it and found it's the first American transistor produced by GE. It's in marvelous condition with it's leather case. Also date coded to the last week of September 1955 which puts it right at the beginning of production. Sadly I can't try as as the dual voltage battery is long extinct.

Second find is a Sony 1R-81 micro radio in it's clamshell box, never used brilliant new condition. Looking for a replacement battery as the original RM640 mercury battery has been discontinued.

Great finds! You can power the Sony with any garden variety watch battery.

AFA the GE, notice how similar it is to the Regency TR-1 in appearance. I have 5 of 'em in different colors. The biggest problem is to insure that the two sets of switch contacts, MAKE contact. Four of the five did not, so I squirted WD-40 into the switch housing, and operated it back and forth numerous times in order to GET them to make contact. I have a bit of information on these, but to start with, here's a scheme to get the two power supply voltages;
