I am thinking that grounding the base kills the transistor. starting at the front end of the radio if you ground the base and still have the noise move to the next transistor. grounding the next transistor base kills the noise then there is a good chance that one is the problem :idea:

another thing I am wondering if left over RF after AF detect diode is not being grounded through 20K pF C10 ? there is less hash if I turn the radio away from radio station signal direction :shock:
