Hi Folks,

After searching for a couple of years, I've finally got my hands on a Standard SR-J808 in nice condition and without any parts missing - needs lots of work though!!
Can anyone help with the schematic and service info please? It's in Sams TSM-78 December 1966 ......

Thanks.

Those are all Philips radios, mine is made by Standard. It looks like this............ (this is the actual radio)
The schematic is not available on RadioMuseum, Electrotanya or any of the other mainstream sites. I only know that it was in TSM-78

If you get no hits in this thread, you might keep an eye on eBay listings for that particular SAM's volume. And/or post a WTB for it in the classifieds here, with the price you're willing to pay.

Thanks for the suggestion Fifties. There is a TSM-78 on eBay at the moment at $7.99 - it's the $22.33 postage that I object to!!

Message the seller, and ask him if you can pay him -maybe $5- to scan the pages you need. He could attach them to an eBay message, or print out and snail mail to you.

Thanks Greg. I have put a request on that posting. Hopefully he'll have it and can ship to the UK

deoxit to the bandswitch and pots.
usually all they need.
just dont spray the variable cap/tuner.
the last 2 i got were given up for dead.
the power switch was the issue.
fixed with deoxit.
good performers once fixed.

I just completed repairs on this set yesterday. AM and SW are both excellent, FM is a tad quieter but still loud enough if you crank up the volume, even the alignment was dead on. I'm quite happy with it, especially as I've been looking for one of these for a few years. All the ones I'd come across were either missing the knob brights, had a broken antenna, or was missing the battery cover. The one I bought was complete and in good condition and even had the leather carrying case.

The problems with my set were the two audio coupling caps each side of the audio pre-amp transistor, and also the final IF transistor was open circuit.

I never had to touch the band switch, and the volume control was OK too, but I did squirt the tone control as that was rather scratchy.

Thanks again to whoever provided the schematic (post seems to have been removed). You saved me a lot of time with the repair. :-)

well thats a first.
i spot checked esr in mine and they were all fine.
were yours "fox" brand?
i may just replace all lytics in mine to see if it makes any difference at all.
its not my rf-2200 but not far off either.

I have no idea what brand the caps were - all i remember is that they were pale blue colored - one read 2pF and the other 0.85uF, so both consigned to the trash!
I never checked any of the other capacitors, just replaced those two. Seems to work well enough.......

Just for kc8adu, I went rummaging through the trash. The capacitors were Matsushita brand.

Thanks.
iirc mine are all fox.
I have seen sets with caps so bad the esr was in excess of 99 ohms that still played in a useable fashion.
But new caps made a huge improvement.
