[img][/img]

Compaq... Radio! Try Googling that name or anything proximate! Big Goose Egg! Neither seen one before mine here, nor another since!
Simply an unusual novelty design. Battery only. Small sliding switch on right side selects Off > AM > FM. From there getting a bit 'different' (aka weird!) The black cone is the speaker, pointed up. Turning stations on the speaker dial. Lifting it up on the tuning dial shaft controls the volume! Radio works well, considering. Station selection is bit sensitive, signal falling off quickly! Also, from there, to adjust the volume, care not to 'detune' station dial. Rather like rubbing stomach and patting head... while reciting Shakespeare! But it works!
And considering the unique features it encompasses, working well and certainly different. Not shown is small name "Arco", on the back side just above base. (Didn't photo well.) Otherwise all other nomenclature as shown on sticker or routine operational stuff, on speaker-dial & slider switch. Of course the big red name! My guess this from latter eighties as Compaq fortunes on rise. Later, doing well, gimmicks like this hardly necessary to herald the brand.
Any info would be highly appreciated! (quarter coin in photo illustrative of radio size.)
Thanks for viewing!
John

Thanks John. Never would have guessed possible. They went WA-A-AY outside the box. Withholding judgement on the 'single knob' practicality but stars for novelty and architecture.

Photo includes "copyright 1995" and a chinglesh version of the Part 15 sticker. What do you make of that?

How would you rate the sound?

That was an Employee giveaway for Compaq employees before HP bought them

+1, 'Tis a company promo for their wireless thin client CPUs. They were popular with libraries (pre-USB, no disk drive or CD support,,,,) Most were T## series - all I can find on fleabay and google are the T### (T + 3-digit model numbers...).

The US Coast Guard gave a bunch of them to a school system in Eastern NC - I sold them monitors to use with them in their library. Wndows NT, IIRC.

First, gentlemen, a profound apology. Trying timely to post response and failing utterly. Getting below error message. Email to Alan, administrator, requesting help on Monday. No reply yet.

General Error
SQL ERROR [ mysql4 ]

Incorrect string value: '\xF0\x9F\x98\x8A ...' for column 'post_text' at row 1 [1366]

An SQL error occurred while fetching this page. Please contact the Board Administrator if this problem persists.

If you are viewing this Post, success at last. Just to say a profound thanks for all the amazing information revealed from what I thought almost surely a continuing conundrum! Collectively, a relatively complete picture of my radio model history.
Now, just keeping fingers crossed that I can get this off successfully!
Gratefully,
John
