I am not a transistor radio collector. As such, I have two transistor radios that I am not sure of their collect-ability or value. Are either or both of these two radios collectible?

Both work. The antenna is straight on the Toshiba. The plug in antenna is missing on the Sony, but the antenna on the chassis is there. Both have leather cases in good condition. Both have their backs in good condition.

Absolutely !

The TR-84 is also an excellent performing radio with a tuned Rf-amp stage.

Have never seen that Toshiba model, but it's a real beauty with a lot of style which would probably bring high-$$$ if sold !!! Am sure one of the experts will comment when they see it !

Terry,

As John said, they are both collectable. Bunis collector's guide puts the TR-84 price in the $30 - $40 range; for the less common 7TM-312S, its price is in the $50 - $60 range. Observed sale prices for the Sony is between $20 and $55. I don't have the historical sale prices for the Toshiba but expect it to be higher than the Sony. The Toshiba radio was also sold under different brands such Penney's and Trancel. The Penney's (7TM-285S) has a lace front and that spells big $$$ such as this:

I'm not a transistor enthusiast, and I think the Sony is pretty plain, but that Toshiba is just lovely!!

Yes! They are both very collectable.

I own both of those sets, my Sony TR-84 smells like a sixty year old cigarette butt, just nasty.
Seems like I will never be able to get the stench out of it. They sell for $50 to $75 on ebay.
Paid $35 for the stinker. LOL

My Toshiba 7TM-312S has a lot of yellowing and some small grill dents. Picked it up for $25.

Try pouring a box of baking soda into a plate, and placing the radio and plate in a plastic bag, sealed, for a few days. You might also have the back off of the radio, but also in the bag.

Then take the chassis out and air out the chassis and cabinet outside on dry sunny days for a month or two. It will get much better.

This topic is only 6 days old and the images are gone already? Sure makes it hard for others to see what the thread was about. Another good reason to post them here on ARF and not on outside hosts. It sure helps keep them archived.

Terry, I think your pricing on the Sony was too high. If you relist, I would suggest an opening bid in the twenty dollar range, and a BIN maybe in the mid thirties.
