I have a small Continental model TR-716 micro transistor radio in its original case. I sourced the model number off the Internet but found no information as to the battery size.

It looks like it has had some work done on it. I would like to test it but I am unsure of the battery type it uses...I put a good AA battery in it and nothing. Does it use an AA or something else, anyone know?

The battery is a Japanese UM-3 aka double A (AA).
I've e-mailed you the four-page service manual.
:) Greg.

oh... check out the earphone socket - it may be causing a short-circuit.

Greg:

The service manual will prove very helpful. As you can see below, the earphone socket was insulated against a short with scotch tape over a few components and the black wire has broken free from the chassis (I will need to locate where it is supposed to connect to) while the white wire is still connected to the chassis but broke free from the earphone socket (I know where that wire goes).

Thanks,

Terry

As you already know - - the mini (3 ⁄ 32") earphone socket disconnects the speaker when in use.
If it is gummed-up internally, well... you will have no audio. Lol

Greg.
