I’ve got a GE P990A World Monitor that I’d like to try out. It looks like it’s never been opened, and the battery compartment is pristine. Is there any concern about blowing transistors if I put in some batteries and there’s a leaking/shorted capacitor or other component out of spec?

Shouldn't be any danger whatsoever when just using batteries.
