are there any sony ICF 6700 owners out there? How do the radio perform?

Read this evaluation:

For being used and the asking price, you would be better off getting a much newer brand name such as ones for serious SWLing.
Check out the specs of these Grundig 800 Sattilit, or Yeasu FRG 7, Yeasu FRG 100 ,

here's a list to help in your quest

Look for ones that have diversity reception (usually to help pick up week and fading signals, Two antenna system to get the stronger signal path)
Double or better yet Triple Conversion
Look for sensitivity with lower noise ceiling. S/N ratio
Band spread
SSB, squelch, antenna preselector, Crystal IF Filters for bandwidth selection-used for filtering out overlapping strong signals
Several antenna RF connectors on the back = BNC-Wire etc.
