I picked up one of these the other day at my local recycle center, does anyone here have one or know much about it? I am not much of a radio collector but wanted to save it from destruction.

Wow. Well the one that sold looks nicer then mine, both antennas on mine are broken off and it looks like 3 knobs are missing, I can take one of the other knobs off and use in the missing ones place, I suppose I can buy replacement knobs easy enough though not sure on replacement antennas though. Glad I rescued it though.

SONY stopped selling parts for that set in the mid 1980s
Good luck finding an exact replacement.

If you intend to sell it you will need better photos.
Do you live in a cave. lol
and... where was this recycling center... Beverly Hills?

:) Greg.

No intention of selling it if so it will likely be to a local radio collector, no I don't live in a cave do you? I should have turned on more lights I suppose though. The recycle center is in Alaska where I am. Thanks to whoever the moderator was that moved this, sorry I was not sure where to post this

Wow, what a fantastic find !

Wonder if the same knobs were used on "more common" Sony equipment of the time ???

Thanks. Well after playing with it a little bit it appears that FM and SW both work along with the cassette player, It looks like I can buy the missing knobs on Ebay, the sellers want a pretty penny for the knobs though but worth it I suppose to get it back to complete, surprisingly enough I can get pretty decent FM reception without the antennas intact, it looks like I can hook up a separate antenna on the back which gives me options.

Regards

I had one about 8 (?) years ago. Got it at a flea market for 125.00. It was in excellent shape but missing the front cover as many of them are. I replaced the belts in the cassette deck and did some other minor stuff. Not being an ebay seller, I contacted the BigApple guy who sold so many of these on ebay and he gave me a grand for it. He sold it for something closer to 2 grand. I kick myself a little bit but that is still the most gain I ever had on a radio. I think I posted it on here somewhere. I used the money to buy my Elad S2 SDR receiver and I have enjoyed it thoroughly.

Now that I think about it, that was one of the few sets I ever bought that I did not over-pay for :) .

Tony

Some parts including knobs on ebay currently. That is a highly desirable radio when done. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R ... k&_sacat=0
