I have one I restored.

Recently I've been listening more to my local talk radio AM station and noticed just how good it sounds. During the day I can receive it fine, but at night they reduce their power so I stream from my computer. I could listen over my stereo but because my R390 sounds so good I stream it to my AM transmitter.

I did two reversible audio mods to the receiver.

1. Local audio amp bypassed and signal taken from the local audio level control.
2. Audio filter driver transformer replaced with the original tube driving a 25L6 as a cathode follower.

It drives a push pull 7 watt 45 amp which drives a 12" speaker in an open back speaker box.

The speaker I only specified 12" and 1K field coil as that was the recommnded resistance from the 45 filament transformer tap to ground for the operating voltages I chose.

Am simply amazed at how good it sounds.

Of course I did spend alot of time tweaking things to get it sounding its best to my ears.
