I recently got this Patrolman pro-2b from a local antique shop. The first thing I did was replace and modify the antenna input (the stock one was broken). I attached a simple wire antenna and a yagi antenna, in search of ham bands. I was met with a strange suprise when I heard what sounded like an AM or FM broadcast. Not only did I hear this, but it was the only thing found across the VHF high band of the radio, I tried locating other stations such as NOAA broadcasts with no luck, only this public broadcast. My question, Can anyone tell if this radio has been modified to receive AM/FM? And if so, why would it only be on one station? The only modification I preformed was on the antenna input, everything else is as bought.

These images and Video link may help.
Thanks

Note: The site seems to not allow me to add a video link as I am a new user, The name of the video is "Realistic Patrolman pro-2B AM/FM broadcast???? what's this all about." By the channel "Everett Hartz"

I had one of these years ago, They are not very sensitive. As I remember, they will not tune down to the 2 Meter ham band of 144-148 MHz and only do part of 6 Meters ( 50-54 MHz.)

Your profile doesn't say where you are. You should be able to pick up NOAA weather on 162 MHz.

Looking at the video, you have the selector switch set for crystal but it needs to be in either the VHF hi or lo manual positions for tuning and these are either side of the center position. When set to one of the four crystal positions (towards the clockwise and counterclockwise extremes), the crystal controls the frequency and the tuning peaks the front end assembly.

Thanks, I'm near Buffalo so 162.550 is the strongest NOAA station, good to know about the crystals.

Could the radio be overloading from a nearby FM broadcast station?

That's a point. I once brought home a sort of boombox, and had problems with a non-local station that is fine on other receivers. I thought a bigger antenna was needed, so.I removed the whip. And suddenly reception was fine. So clearly it was overloading, and removing the antenna made the strong signals weaker, but the non-local station was still strong enough to get through.
