First time I've worked on a Fairbanks Morse radio. It's a Model 91 console from 1936/37. Some of the paper/wax caps are mechanically secured to the chassis. See photo. Was this just FM's method of providing a convenient path to chassis for the ground lead? Or was it also important to snug the cap against the chassis? Apparently built by person with initials GED in 1936.

Thanks,
Larry

I think that was usually done if one, or both of the cap leads had a fairly long distance to get to whatever they connected to. You don't really want a component 'suspended' by long wires. Could have also been done to maintain the component and wiring placement to reduce/eliminate interference.

New caps are smaller and will fit into the same mounting bracket with room to spare.

Thanks! It's something I haven't seen in other radios.
