Let's face it folks; we've been lucky and now our luck has run out.

We simply do not use enough of any one pattern for any manufacturer to get excited......

Another problem I see is it will be a slower market for cloth until collectors use what they've been stocking up on. Right now both Grillecloth.com and Radio Daze are out of the #14 Philco ribbed cloth. It looks like AES still has some as part #S-G440F, but as the other two sources run out of a pattern AES isn't too far behind.

For anyone just now reading this thread who needs some cloth now is the time to buy. There are three vendors who are selling basically the same patterns so if one is out check with the other two before giving up hope:

I also hope you're wrong, but I suspect the days of having so many model specific patterns available may be gone.

Maybe John O. had found a new manufacturer for his cloth.

-13- now

It is now up to 17.

Did anybody ask John (grillcloth.com) why he removed his notice from the home page?

I traded a couple of Emails with John last week, and he indicated he was swamped with the "panic" buying, so maybe he's trying to slow down the panic to get a good inventory of what he's got. I know last week there were several patterns that were on the display, and not in the price list, now those patterns are gone altogether. I imagine it's hard to keep selling right up to the end of the bolt, you run the risk of overselling...

Hello Guys,
man I guess it's time to give my friend call in the textile business he produces repo fabric for furniture and curtains for clients around the country .

he makes a pattern at home and makes samples then sends off to his textile company where they produce it .

Walton's cloth cannot ever, ever be an issue- of this I'm absolutely certain. The correct cloth will add many hundreds of dollars to the set, so even having one piece made for you in Pakistan or wherever would be SO worth it even at $100- a sq. foot. You'd have to be a fool not to pay whatever is needed.

you "quoted" yourself.

“Hand woven in Pakistan”. I can see that in the description on E-pay now.

Maybe I should learn how to nit.

How much will all the hype drive up the prices. If I had a pattern a person needed to finish a radio I'd sell it, I didn't panic buy, not the end of the world. :)

Well the simple answer is - - that it could drive up prices enough for someone to see a profit in reproducing it again.

I have only needed to buy a few grille cloths, but when I did, I was delighted to get the real deal rather than settle for some bogus stuff from a fabric store.

What I was trying to get across is that I much prefer something that's a close match in pattern, weight, and weave. I have spent much time pawing through local fabric stores without finding anything I would use on any radio or TV. Perhaps other areas have better fabric stores.

Here are two cloths that I would love to find. The first is from a Capehart-Farnsworth 661-P television. The pattern consists of 1/2-inch squares. The original color had a darker maroon, judging by the margins that were protected from UV fading:

The second is for an RCA T-100 television. It has shiny gold threads interspersed in a semi-random fashion:

If anyone can find these cloths -- in a fabric store or wherever --I'll be delighted to buy some from you. In both cases, the cloth is large, and a distinctive design feature, so the closer I can get to the original, the better. The Farnsworth cloth is not in terrible shape, so unless I can replace it with an exact match, I'll leave the original in place.

I have made some jokes about using spandex as grill cloth. But, in this case, that is what that looks like. Most of the spandex I have removed from "restored" radios has the gold threads in it. I find it somewhat interesting that several people chose to use it as grill cloth in the first place.

It somewhat resembles spandex, but it's heavier and non-stretchy. I have also visited costume stores in search of suitable cloths. As fun as it might seem, you really don't want to use those fabrics.

Hey Phil,
You might want to try contacting Don Cherry. He may have seen that pattern somewhere.
