This unusual radio came to me to restore the cabinet, its from California and will be part of a WW2 museum collection. The front control panel book matched veneer will be replaced along with the top flat area. There are nail holes in the top, that veneer will be replace with new. Stay tuned for this makeover and perhaps the owner can chime in on this thread when the radio is placed in his WW2 museum.

Suprisingly Fred I had one of these awhile back... Bought it because of the chrome chassis... Did notice too that mine had exposed nail holes in the top as well... Maybe they held the veneer in place with tacks then removed once the glue dried??

No, mine went to a local guy, here in South Dakota unless he moved to CA... I think mine was in a little better shape without the rings on the top and the veneer damage on the face... A really neat radio though.. I thought it was strange that they had those chambers on the sides where the cutouts are... Thought maybe set up for a higher end model with extra speakers? Also the chassis had component covers that had a neat Indian head on them that said "Inca"...

I don't see any screws holding cabinet together but I do see many nails, maybe the top suppose to have been nailed down, I did notice filler were the nails are on other parts of radio. I worked 8 hours today on radio and came a long way, ready for refinishing soon. Lot of work, replacing veneer takes some time and all the other stuff does to. sure will look nice when finished, the customer will have to post pictures of it when radio is in it and completed, all im doing is cabinet.

For the sake of clarification, in case future enthusiasts look for this model, the radio is an 11 tube 1936 Gilfillan model 117x with a chrome chassis and tuning eye. It also has a jewel in the front panel that lights up indicating the set is on.
This cabinet is built like a battleship with 3/4” plywood used in much of it! There are clarifier boxes on either side of the cabinet where the slots are. No doubt, to help spread the sound from its large speaker.

Ok the Gilfillan is complete now, looks very nice. This radio will display nicely in the WW2 museum. I will let dry for a week or so and wrap and box it back up send it back VIA Greyhound to sunny California.

The owner said he would post pictures of the museum here on this post, its in California. Maybe he can do it before he gets the radio back.
