This rare General radio was sent to me by fellow member here on the forum and this little gem will receive the finest factory finish possible. Stay tuned to this channel for further updates on the progress this rare radio. This style cabinet sure looks similar like the climax radio if I remember right. Unless I'm thinking of something else.

If I had a shop that clean I would be afraid of doing any work in it and messing it up.

I will keep it clean as much as possible, I don't like mess either. By the way how are things in Milwaukee?. I grew up in there in the early 60,s thru mid 70,s lived near Layton and Howell ave across from Gen Billy Mitchell airport , that's what airport was called at the time.

I think you would still recognize the area. New buildings and strip malls come and go but overall its the same thing. I have lived here all my life starting in the late 50's. I'm not far from your old place. Several miles northwest, near 76th and Oklahoma.

Can't wait to see how she progresses! Very excited, thanks again Fred. Shop looks great.

And yes you're correct. It's the same cabinet; this set was branded by both Climax and General Television, and was available around the time the companies were merging. So some have Climax labels, and some have General Television.

This is the first radio that I refinished in my new shop, its fitting that it would be a very rare radio to get the treatment over here. This cabinet turned out fabulous to say the least and giving it the factory look., I will give it a few days for the clear to cure hard and ship it back to the owner. Thanks for looking

Hey Fred, after you have grain filled with timber mate and have sanded the cabinet down, what do you use to remove all the dust prior to applying stain? Tack cloth, mineral spirits, lacquer thinner? I just don’t want to compromise the grain filler and cause it to pull out of the pours or lift.... then do you use any kind of pre-stain prior to applying the Mohawk wiping stain?

I air blow off the dust then use a tack cloth then stain and tone.
