I acquired this a few years ago knowing that the cabinet has issues. This will likely be the last consumer radio I'll ever (try to) restore and could sure use some advice. Looks kind of like the top part of a fancy floor model, doesn't it?

Because the side pieces are bent plywood, it seems that it is trying to reform itself (i.e., unbend) a little. The wood is old and dry--is there a wood softener or some other way to ease the process of bending it back to its originally intended shape? Even if that's possible, I figure I'd need to make up some sort of jig to hold it in place after re-gluing.

The "wings" are delaminating but that's not a major problem. They're held to the case with tiny wood screws and can be removed easily for regluing. Fortunately I have the exact, correct replacement grill cloth. The mfr's trick to keeping the grill cloth properly curved was to use window screen as a backer. It has both flexibility and stiffness to do the job quite nicely.
Lastly, Here's a restored one from Radio Attic's Archives. I think the finish is a little over the top, but If I could get mine to look half as good, I'd be happy.

Anyway, before I plunge in, I'd welcome any and all advice from you experts.

Can you show an internal photo - opposite side of your tricky loose veneer areas.
Not the wings (ribs)... :)

Egg, thanks for your reply. Here's a back side photo. I've also made a crude drawing to show the camera angle in plan view, if that helps.
