I have Mohawk black toner to use on the top of a Philips radio cabinet I'm restoring. But the supplier of Mohawk lacquer, some years ago, sent me 4 cans of Behlen gloss amongst Mohawk lacquer which he didn't have enough of.

The Behlen is a high gloss which would be ideal as a finish but could there be compatibility issues long term. I would like to use them as they cost me £10 a can :) But I really dont want the hair line crack issue ever again but that was with acrylic and cellulose over.

My feeling is that as all are cellulose it should be OK. Views appreciated.

They should work fine together. If you're really concerned, use a wash coat of shellac between them (1 part shellac from a can thinned with 4 to 5 parts denatured alcohol--exact ratio not required).
