I'm almost ready to start the restoration of my Emerson AX-212, just waiting on my iron to get here, and I'm trying to figure out the best way to remove the knobs without damaging the wood. They won't come off by hand and I'm afraid to use any kind or tools on it. If anyone knows how to get them off with harming the fragile wood, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks guys! -John

Also, as you can see by the picture in the second photo, the black trim at the bottom of the radio is looking a bit worn. Should I sand those down and give them a fresh coat of black paint, or just leave them alone? I will not be doing anything else to the cabinet, it is beautiful and needs nothing else in my opinion, I just want your opinion on the trim. Thanks again everyone!

Get an old T-Shirt, loop it behind each knob, one at a time, and pull.

I use strong twine or string looped behind. Gently wiggle side to side.

I use the exact technique in the video, except I don't use gloves, I use a piece of thin T-shirt cloth.

Works great.
