Wondering about the black stripe on this zenith 6b321 cabinet and if it is painted on or in the cabinet before I strip it.

Don't strip it. You will lose the faux wood grain outer layer forever and find bland wood underneath.

Some ambitious people apply real veneer that resembles the faux finish. I have one in so-so condition. I used some Howard's Restore a finish product and some white, no grit GoJo.

Yes. Sometimes they need multiple gentle applications. I get the Howards at a local antique store. It's a finish rejuvenator.
